Metalwork Machining

Trainees on this class will be taught how to operate lathes, milling, grinding, pressing and sawing machines to cut, shape, drill, bore and grind metals to make parts such as shafts, bearings, and brake disks for industrial equipment.

  • What is a stipend?

    A stipend is a fixed regular sum of money paid to trainees to help cover expenses related to their attendance.

  • Is there a job attachment involved?

    During training some persons are sent on job attachment. Selection for job attachment is determined by the trainee’s performance, attitude, and behaviour as well as the availability of spaces at participating companies.

  • Will I be paid while on the Apprenticeship Programme?

    Yes, note that the wage paid varies according to the company which employs you. An apprentice is paid 45%, 55% and 75% of a regular employee’s pay in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.

    The CLA centre is where most of the Board’s Evening programmes are held. It is known for its Agricultural and Engineering programmes. CLA is the BVTB’s largest centre and it continues to be expanded.
